Description

A medication called mifepristone 200mg lowers progesterone, a hormone necessary for a pregnancy to take place. It belongs to a group of drugs known as antiprogestational steroids. Mifepristone is used to terminate a pregnancy through ten weeks of gestation (70 days or less from the start of the last menstrual cycle) when combined with misoprostol. The recommended dosage schedule for mifepristone is:

  • Day 1: Take a pill of 200 mg of mifepristone
  • Eight hundred micrograms of misoprostol were given through the mouth (in the cheek pouch) at a site suitable for the patient, 24 to 48 hours after consuming mifepristone.
  • Consult your physician again seven to fourteen days after taking mifepristone.

How Mifepristone 200mg functions

Progesterone is a naturally occurring hormone in women that is necessary for the continuation of pregnancy. However, Mifepristone 200mg blocks its effects. Without this hormone, the pregnancy’s progress stops when the uterine (womb) lining breaks down, just like it does after a menstrual cycle.

Thus, we learned that the treatment for premature abortion is through the use of mifepristone, which is also referred to as RU 486. It can be used for up to 70 days from the start of your last menstrual cycle, or until week 10 of pregnancy. Progesterone is a natural substance that is necessary for your pregnancy to continue, and mifepristone prevents it.

It is typically taken together with misoprostol, another medication. If you have an ectopic pregnancy, which is a rare abnormal pregnancy that develops outside of the womb, then you should not use metronidazole. In this instance, it will not terminate the pregnancy. It might result in the birth of an abnormal pregnancy and extremely severe bleeding.
